Buying things

Hello,

I've been reading the mailing list archive and wiki articles with
great interest and I am keen to get started doing things with both
the Sputnik/OpenBeacon and Mifare/OpenPCD projects. When I go to
shop.openpcd.org to buy some toys, I find a couple of things marked
'out of stock', specifically the 'Official OpenPCD MIFARE Classic
1K RFID Card [MF-CLASSIC01]' and 'OpenBeacon USB node [USBNODE01]'.
There are other options for the Mifare cards, so that isn't a problem
(although the alternatives are more expensive and harder to use?),
but it possible to do anything with Sputnik/OpenBeacon tags without the
USB reader? Are the readers going to be available in future? Are they
made to order? Would it be best for me to order one or two at first, or,
since I'm likely to ultimately want lots, to order more in a larger batch?

Can the Sputnik/OpenBeacon tags themselves can be used as 'readers'
(with different firmware, obviously)? The main application I'm interested
in is tracking people and items within a residential or office setting,
which I presume would require many receivers scattered about the place.
If the tags can do the measurement job, this could be a more economical
way to build a sensor network since the tags are three times cheaper
than the readers.

Thanks,

Robin.
