I2C Interface

Hello openpcd developers,

i am an informatics student from germany and i am looking for an
rfid-reader for my bachelor thesis.

I want to expand the Surveyor SRV1 Robot, so that it can drive around
reading RFID-Tags.

The rfid-reader must use the I2C bus, as no other interface is
available on the robot.
(Bfin Board, the 2 serial ports are already in use)


I have read that the I2C plugs on the openpcd board are for "future expansion".

I am thinking about the following problems:
- Is it possible to modificate the firmware, so that the data read by
the reader is given out to I2C?
- the reader must read rfid-tags stand-alone, without a pc controlling it
- How much will the reader tear the battery down? (The robot battery
has 7.5v that i'll have to convert to 5v)

Will the openpcd Reader fit my needs? Or should i go with another product?
